ForGet practical guide

Organise long-term deadlines with time to prepare

Reviewed on 19 October 2026

Some tasks sit well beyond your daily routine: checking a document before a trip, arranging maintenance or preparing a renewal next year. Today feels too early, but later should not become too late.

Start with three decisions: what needs doing, when it is due and when you want a reminder beforehand. One real deadline is enough to try the process.

Check your passport before travelling

Set a reminder ahead of your next trip.

Illustrative example. No real deadline or delivered notification is shown.

1. Write down a specific action

“Trip” tells you little when you see it months later. “Check travel document before departure” names an action. Add a short note with the information you will need, then choose a category that makes sense to you.

Enter the date from the source that determines it. For a contract, document or service, use the relevant provider or authority’s information. ForGet stores the dates you choose; it does not determine legal deadlines for you.

2. Leave enough time for the task

Consider the work that must happen before the deadline. Reading a document may need less preparation than arranging an appointment or completing several steps.

In ForGet, set one or more advance reminders, along with the time and time zone. This lets you separate early preparation from a later check without changing the due date itself. Check the resulting reminder dates before saving.

3. Choose how you want to be reminded

In-app reminders are created even while ForGet is closed. You see them when you next open the app. If you want a reminder outside the app, enable email or push in your settings. Push requires permission on a supported device.

SMS reminders are currently available for Swiss destination numbers. They are optional and paid, requiring Easy or higher, accepted SMS terms and available credits. Check the current conditions in your account before enabling them.

A saved entry does not prove that a message has arrived. For a channel you plan to rely on, check the settings and try a separate, near-term test entry. Keep the real due date intact.

4. Complete, renew or snooze deliberately

Mark the task as done when you have completed it. If it comes around again, renew the entry for its next date. Recurrences can be set in days, weeks, months or years.

If you only want to see a reminder again later, snooze it. Snoozing a reminder does not automatically move the underlying deadline. Check the due date separately if the actual deadline changes.

5. Share one entry when useful

You can invite another existing PlenDesk account to read or edit an entry using its verified email address. Choose the access that fits the task.

The recipient accepts the invitation in ForGet; no invitation email is sent. Agree separately how the other person will know to look for it. Sharing an entry does not mean someone has accepted or completed the task.

Dates and reminders

Will a closed app still show a reminder?
In-app reminders are created while ForGet is closed and become visible when you reopen it. Reminders outside the app need an enabled channel and its required settings.
Does snoozing change the deadline?
No. Snoozing postpones the reminder, not the due date. Renewing an entry and changing its actual date are different actions.
Does sharing send an invitation email?
No. The invited existing account accepts in ForGet. Use the account’s verified email address and let the person know separately.

Checklist for your first deadline

Check the saved entry and, separately, the channel you intend to use.

  • A specific action named clearly.
  • Due date copied from the relevant source.
  • Enough preparation time allowed.
  • Reminder times and time zone checked.
  • Desired channel enabled and its conditions understood.
  • Delivery tried separately if using an external channel.
  • Completion, renewal and sharing considered where needed.

A reminder supports your planning. Check important dates against their source and do not treat a saved entry as proof of message delivery.
